JD Wetherspoon, Birmingham Airport

T&J Installations was commissioned by Innserve to undertake the full installation of beer dispense equipment at JD Wetherspoon at Birmingham International Airport. The installation required us to install the JD Wetherspoon approved Glycol chiller system, BOC gases, wine dispense, cask ales and cellar cooling.

Our approach

Objectives

The objective of the installation was to enable JD Wetherspoon to dispense brands from Brewers Scot Co, Coors, Stella, and Guinness with a selection of cask ales. The project entailed:

• Surveying all working areas
• Submitting risk assessments and method statements
• Arranging clearance for security passes
• Installing equipment to schedule of works issued from JD Wetherspoon with 8 days to complete
• Commissioning of equipment

Paul Jones, Director for T&J Installations said “whilst the work is labour intensive and arduous due to the schedule of works, the real problems are overcoming the security issues regarding airports, with the bar itself being in a restricted zone and the cellar in the landside area of the terminal”.

Points of interest

The python runs were 60 metres in length from landside through other retailers’ stores to the bar area in a restricted zone. 4 pythons were required in total due to the differences in the temperature needed for the individual brands.

Cooling condenser units for the Glycol and Cellar Cooling were all situated on the roof of the airport.
