T&J brings Czech Budvar tank beer to Simon Rimmer's patch of Scandinavia on the Wirral

Well known TV chef, Simon Rimmer, recently opened a Viking inspired gastropub in the Wirral as an ode to the area’s Nordic heritage. To quench the thirst of his customers, Simon selected the tanks of Budweiser Budvar Tankové Pivo.

Located on Black Horse Hill in West Kirby, The Viking Pub & Bakehouse has 150 seats in the main dining area, as well as an additional 170 in the outside seating area and upstairs, and is decorated in a Scandinavian style, in homage to Wirral’s Viking roots.

It’s designed using the Danish idea of Hygge, usually translated into English as ‘cosiness’. The idea combines the pleasures of sitting by the fire on a cold night, warm candlelight, family get-togethers and good food, shared with loved ones.

The Budvar tanks, installed by T&J, on show in their warm, red copper glow, lend themselves nicely to the overall aesthetic of this homely gastropub.

Simon was actively involved in selecting Budvar and visited Budweiser specially to observe the process: “We went to the brewery in the Czech Republic and got to make our own brew.

“It was an amazing experience to see how it’s all made, and to have a hand in making the beer that we will be serving. It comes in fresh, and is piped directly to the pumps, so no air touches it and you get that absolute fresh taste every time.”

In order to facilitate the required volumes of beer and take into account the available space within the pub it was decided that the taps should be supplied by two copper tanks within the pub and a further two steel tanks in the cellar.

Charlotte Kemp, Operations Director for the Liverpool-based pub and restaurant group Flying Pig & Lobster, said: “The tanks are in, the beer is flowing, and we couldn’t be happier. T&J did a great job, working alongside us as we were planning the layout and infrastructure of the pub and deciding where the tanks should go – and the installation looks great”.

Paul Jones, Operations Director at T&J, said: “Tank beer has been installed at several high profile venues over the course of the past year. Simon Rimmer is a household name and having him give the seal of approval on what the tanks are dispensing is great news for Budvar in the UK! It’s also great to once again, bring Budvar tank beer to a location outside of London – the word is definitely getting round.”
